Mr Andrew Chew

Chairman

Andrew is Chief Commercial Officer and a member of Executive Management at James Cook University (JCU), Singapore.  Concurrently he is Chairman of the board of directors of its wholly-owned subsidiary, James Cook Institute.  As Chief Commercial Officer of JCU Singapore, he is responsible for commercial strategy, marketing, external relations and growth of the organisation.  He spearheaded JCU’s entry into Continuing Professional Development (CPD) via the set-up of James Cook Academy and its acquisition of Eagle Infotech in 2021.  Subsequently he led the transformation and rebrand of Eagle Infotech to James Cook Institute, and the consolidation of James Cook Academy’s activities under this Institute.  James Cook Institute is a Registered Training Provider (RTP) with SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG).  Offering a suite of technology and soft skill courses, James Cook Institute helps to equip around 7,000 learners per year with the capability to navigate a rapidly-evolving workplace.

Initially Andrew started his career in Melbourne in management consulting and auditing with BDO Chartered Accountants and Consultants.  Since then Andrew has worked in a variety of roles in hotel revenue management, property development, and education and training.  He holds a Bachelor of Commerce with double major in Accounting and Management from Monash University, and Master of International Tourism and Hospitality Management from James Cook University with Academic Medal.

Andrew is Chair of the Sustainability Interest Group, Singapore International Chamber of Commerce (SICC).  He represents JCU on the Management Committee of Singapore Association for Private Education (SAPE) and serves on the Council of Advisors to Australian Alumni Singapore (AAS).  Andrew is also a member of Singapore Institute of Directors (SID) and Australian Chamber of Commerce, Singapore (AustCham).

Professor Abhishek Bhati

Director

As Campus Dean JCU Singapore, Abhishek contributes to JCU’s Tropical Asian i nitiatives. His efforts guide the learning, student experience and teaching and academic governance of programs offered in JCU Singapore. Abhishek Bhati’s research investigates resilience planning in tourism, sustainable development of cities and scholarship of l earning and teaching. In particular, he is interested in technology and the role it has as a catalyst for tourism industry changes; “Smart City” as a mechanism for future sustainable development; and the need for tourism to deliver United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Recent projects he has conducted have studied tourist vandalism and effectiveness of stakeholder responses to tourism developments. Prof Bhati’s other projects include incorporating ‘work integrated learning’ (WIL) based learning strategies in tertiary education.

He has been successful in securing collaborative grants with Office of Learning and Teaching (OLT), Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC), external industry grants and several internal research grants. His current research interest is tourist behaviour management, resilience planning and scholarship of Teaching and Learning.

He holds a Diploma in Adult and Continuing Education (DACE) and has conducted training for enterprises such as Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and WOW Vision. He has experience in developing and certifying training courses for SkillsFuture Singapore.

Ms Venna Chai

Director

Ms Venna Chai is the Chief Financial Officer at James Cook University (Singapore) and a member of the Finance and Risk Management Committee. Venna has over 20 years’ experience in the higher education sector, the majority of which has been operating at senior executive and management levels. She obtained her Master of Professional Accounting in 2005. She is a CPA Australia. She heads a Department that is responsible for the Financial, Procurement, Strategies planning and Risk Management.

Mrs Liana Tang

Executive Director

Liana, founder of Eagle Infotech in 1988, and currently the Executive Director, grew it from a two-staff organisation to its present staff strength of more than 20. Holding a Bachelor of Science from the National University of Singapore and a Post Grad Diploma in Management Consultancy, she has over 30 years of experience in the training and adult education sector. During the Circuit Breaker, she spearheaded the team to steer from classroom training towards virtual training so that companies could still upskill their workforce. Liana continues to provide leadership so that Eagle can continue to soar and partner organisations to provide their staff with cutting edge skills.

Mrs Liana Tang

Liana is the founder of Eagle Infotech and has more than 30 years of experience in the Training and Adult Education industry. Liana strongly believes that Education and Learning should be a way of life and developing a passion for learning is essential for overall growth. Coupled with her experience, her strong beliefs for continuous lifelong learning fuels the growth of the Company.

Joe Tey

Chief Executive Officer

Joe is the Chief Executive Officer of James Cook Institute. He has over 13 years of experience in the Training and Adult Education industry. He has also spent another 12 years in Banking and Finance, Property, Retail & Services and Logistics industries. . Joe believes that in order for us to stay relevant and employable, one must embrace learning as a daily essential. With this belief, together with the JCI team, he endeavours to bring in the best in class training to support our learners’ lifelong learning journey.

Joe holds a Bachelor of Business(Marketing) degree from Queensland University of Technology and ACTA qualification from IAL.

Joanna Tang

Senior Manager, HR, Finance and Operations

Joanna joined James Cook Institute as Business Manager in 2018 to spearhead digital transformation projects across the Company. Prior to her Training and Adult Education career, Joanna worked as a Senior Consultant in a large international consulting firm. Currently, Joanna holds ACTA qualification and has a Bachelor of Accountancy.

Chia Kee Tong

Principal IT Trainer

Kee Tong has been with Eagle Infotech for about 20 years. He oversees and manages all IT Adult Educators and ensures that quality training is delivered. He also manages IT courseware, designs and develops new curriculum. Kee Tong currently holds an ACTA and DACE qualification, as well as a Bachelor of Economics.

Peter Low

L & D Manager

As the L & D Manager, Peter ensures overall Course and Adult Educator quality in James Cook Institute. He also manages the Soft Skills courseware. Peter performs market research to identify market trends and demands which is then translated into the development of new courses. Peter currently holds ACTA qualification and is pursuing DDDLP.

Henry Tan

Sales Manager

As the Sales Manager, Henry provide guidance for the Sales Team towards the achievement of corporate sales target. He works closely with Marketing team to plan the sales activities (e.g. roadshows, campaign and course previews) And supports the L&D team in their market research to identify market trends and demands from corporate clients which can be translated into corporate workshop and training.

Henry holds the ACTA qualification awarded by IAL in year 2015.

Kate Aye

Marketing Manager

Kate joined James Cook Institute in 2013 and has been an integral part of the Company’s marketing efforts. She oversees the company’s marketing initiatives, plans and executes marketing campaigns and creates collaterals.

Joe Lee

Operations & Admin Manager

As the Operations & Admin Manager, Joe is the overall in-charge of the day-to-day running of classes. He ensures that classes run smoothly and learners are onboarded to their respective courses properly. He also oversees the post-course administrative procedures.
